In 1,963, Luis Gerbolés Calvo opened COMEC ESPAÑOLA in Madrid an engineering and sales office as a subsidiary Company of a well reputed and well known French-American company, at the time world market leader for cutting lines for steel and aluminium sectors.
In 1,974, in order to better control manufacturing quality as well as delivery schedules of equipment, the Company is completed with the creation of MECESA as a manufacturing plant in the outskirts of Madrid.
In 1,980 the Spanish engineering company becomes independent from the American mother company and joins forces with the manufacturing plant, making MECESA the leader in the Spanish market for engineering and manufacture for cutting and finishing lines for ferrous and non ferrous strips.
Through the 80’s and mainly the 90’s, MECESA expands worldwide entering markets as Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, India, Indonesia, Egypt, Poland, Italy, Belgium and France, among others.
In 1,994 the first contact between SALICO and MECESA takes place, with the supply by SALICO of two rotary tilting shears for trapezoidal sheets cutting to be included in lines supplied by MECESA to GONVARRI group. This relationship continues during the following years, mainly for the installation of SALICO special rotary shears, for trapezoids or for thick gauge strip, in MECESA lines.
In year 2,000 Austrian multinational company Voestalpine Industrieanlagenbau – (VAI), takes over MECESA in order to complete its portfolio in the steelmaking and rolling business. MECESA is included within the group as VAI Cosim Madrid, becoming the VAI division responsible and specialized in strip finishing lines worldwide.
In year 2,005 and after several years of successful technological and commercial development, SIEMENS takes over VAI. Several changes in the company structure and organization result in two years’ time in all personnel coming from MECESA leaving the Company towards the new SALMEC, founded in coordination with Italian partners of SALICO, well reputed Company in the field of finishing lines.
